We are the first practical structured mechanism of judicial co-operation to become truly operational within the European Union.

We were created in 1998 by the Joint Action 98/428 JHA to fight serious crime in a decentralised, flexible and horizontal way.

In 2008 our legal basis was reinforced through the Council Decision 976/JHA on the EJN and currently we are more than 400 Contact Points distributed all over the EU as well as in Candidate and Third Countries!
