A terrorist attack, planned to take place in France on 1 July 2018, was prevented through the actions of the Belgian authorities and their partners in Germany, France and Luxembourg. Based on information from their security services, the law enforcement services arrested several suspects and dismantled an explosive device before the planned attack.

At both the arrest stage and coordination of investigative measures, as well as during court proceedings, this case was heavily influenced by the fact that one of the targets held a diplomatic passport and claimed diplomatic immunity.

This case is an important example of cross-border cooperation in a terrorism case. Following a request from the Belgian authorities, Eurojust facilitated the issuance and execution of multiple judicial instruments and the coordination among authorities on complex legal issues.
