Ms Michèle Coninsx, the President of Eurojust, and Mr Han Moraal, National Member for the Netherlands, attended the official opening ceremony of the permanent premises of the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague on 19 April. In attendance were His Majesty King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands and His Excellency Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General of the United Nations.
Eurojust and the ICC shared the Haagse Arc building between 2003 and 2015, after which the ICC moved out. In 2007, the Assembly of States Parties decided that the ICC should be provided with purpose-built permanent premises. The Danish architect firm schmidt hammer lassen was selected in 2009 to design the new building, the construction of which started in 2012. The building was completed in 2015.
In 2007, Eurojust and the Office of the Prosecutor of the ICC signed a Letter of Understanding to enhance contacts and exchange experience.
Eurojust wishes its colleagues at the ICC luck and success in the Court’s new premises.
