The Communication from the Commission on the EU Action Plan against migrant smuggling (2015 - 2020) envisages strengthening operational cooperation and information exchange between the relevant EU Agencies, Member States and States of origin and transit. In addition, on 22 June 2015, the European Union launched an EU military operation in the Southern Central Mediterranean (EUNAVFOR MED). The objective of this military operation is to undertake systematic efforts to identify, capture and dispose of vessels used by migrant smugglers or traffickers. Eurojust and EUNAVFOR MED agreed to unite efforts in this field, signing a letter of understanding on 1 October 2015.
