On 1-2 June, Ms Michèle Coninsx, President of Eurojust, attended the EU – US Justice and Home Affairs Ministerial Meeting in Amsterdam. The meeting was organised under the auspices of the Netherlands EU Presidency, and focused on enhancing cooperation in the field of Justice and Home Affairs between the European Union and the USA.
During the two-day meeting, different themes were explored, including migration, data protection and counter-terrorism.
Ms Coninsx was invited to give a speech on cooperation in the field of criminal law, including results of mutual legal assistance (MLA) review and recommendations.
The President drew attention to effective criminal investigations and prosecutions in cyberspace and underlined the vital role of the USA in international cooperation with the EU Member States in this respect. Ms Coninsx highlighted that Eurojust is committed to continuing its good collaboration with the US authorities and identifying opportunities to further improve current cooperation.
Ms Coninsx also referred to the Eurojust strategic seminar on cybercrime, Keys to cyberspace, taking place in The Hague on 2 June, and the possible establishment of a Judicial Cybercrime Network.
