On 08 April, Ms Anna Skarhed, Swedish Chancellor of Justice (Justitiekanslern), visited Eurojust with a large delegation of lawyers and administrative staff. The purpose of the visit was to gain insight into the general functioning of Eurojust.
The Chancellor and her delegation received presentations by the Swedish Desk on the functioning of Eurojust and international judicial cooperation in practice. They also met with the President of Eurojust, Ms Michèle Coninsx, who gave some short introductory remarks on the added value of Eurojust in the current international and geopolitical context.
The Chancellor is appointed by the Swedish government, tasked to exercise supervision over public organisations, such as the police, the courts and the prosecution service. The Chancellor also acts as the Government’s attorney in certain cases concerning alleged wrongful actions by the State that may have caused damage to individuals. In addition, the Chancellor acts as the only competent prosecutor in cases concerning alleged breaches of the freedom of speech.
Before becoming Justice Chancellor, Ms Skarhed was a judge at the Supreme Court.
