A delegation from the Ministry of Security and Justice of the Netherlands, headed by H.E. Mr Ard van der Steur, Minister of Security and Justice, visited Eurojust in The Hague yesterday.
The delegation included Mr Jan Terstegen, Director for European and International Affairs, and Mr Nicholas Franssen, Counsellor at the Law Enforcement Department. Representing Eurojust were Ms Michèle Coninsx, President of Eurojust and National Member for Belgium; Mr Francisco Jiménez-Villarejo, Vice-President and National Member for Spain and Mr Han Moraal, National Member for the Netherlands.
The Minister visited Eurojust to discuss the developments Eurojust foresees in the coming years and how they might affect its functioning, including relations with the proposed European Public Prosecutor’s Office and the increasing number of cases Eurojust handles. The Minister also sought Eurojust’s point of view regarding preparations for the new Eurojust building.
Regarding the new building, Ms Coninsx relayed Eurojust’s satisfaction with the level of professional support and guidance received from the Ministry of Security and Justice and that a transparent and cooperative relationship exists with the representatives of the Ministry, a relationship based on mutual understanding, respect and trust.
The meeting provided Ms Coninsx with an opportunity to explain that every challenge in the project has been dealt with in a pragmatic, realistic and mutually acceptable manner, and to express Eurojust’s gratitude for the real support the Ministry of Security and Justice and the Host State have provided.
