The Hon. Michael Keenan MP, Minister for Justice of Australia, visited Eurojust on 7 November. On the agenda were Australia's engagement with Eurojust to date, and opportunities for deeper engagement in the future. The Australian delegation was particularly interested in discussing how to enhance cooperation between Australia and the European Union in fighting international crime.
The visit was hosted by Mr Francisco Jiménez-Villarejo, Vice-President and National Member for Spain. In attendance from Eurojust were Ms Malči Gabrijelčič, Chair of the External Relations Team and National Member for Slovenia, and Mr Han Moraal, National Member for the Netherlands. Mr Keenan was accompanied by Mr Peter Soros, the Minister’s Chief of Staff, Mr Chris Moraitis, Secretary, Attorney-General’s Department, Mr Ramzi Jabbour, Assistant Commissioner, Australian Federal Police (AFP), Mr Sean Singh, Chargé d’Affaires, Australian Embassy in the Netherlands, and Mr Nathan Barron, Counsellor AFP, Australian Embassy in the Netherlands.
Mr Jiménez-Villarejo said after the meeting ended: ‘Australia has been a valuable cooperation partner in some very big cases, and we look forward to enhancing this level of cooperation in the future. Face-to-face meetings such as this one highlight the importance of personal contacts in our daily work
