On 28 October, Mr Lukáš Starý, member of the Eurojust Trafficking and Related Crimes Team and National Member for Czech Republic, spoke at a conference organised by the Dutch Ministry of Security and Justice, jointly with the Dutch Ministry of Defence, at the Koningin Beatrix Kazerne in The Hague, attended by high-ranking Dutch Customs, military police and government authorities.
The theme of the conference (in the framework of EU Human Trafficking Day) was Trafficking in Human Beings and Illegal Immigration: differences and similarities. Who is responsible for recognising the signals?
Mr Starý’s presentation, Eurojust’s activities in fighting THB and illegal immigration, provided statistics on THB and illegal immigration casework at Eurojust, Eurojust’s THB Strategic Project 2012, Eurojust’s Action Plan against THB 2012-2016, and a THB forced prostitution case example from 2011, Bolero/Verdee, which resulted in the arrest and conviction of seven traffickers receiving individual sentences from 3.5 to 11 years.
