On 9 July, Eurojust hosted the visit of Mr Paul Maier, Director of the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights (the "European Observatory", an entity within the Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM). Mr Maier was accompanied by Mr Valerio Papajorgji, Administrator Enforcement, Operations and Projects Area at the European Observatory.
The delegation was welcomed by Mr Ladislav Hamran, Vice-President and National Member for the Slovak Republic. The meeting was attended by Mr Francesco Lo Voi, National Member for Italy and Chair of the Financial and Economic Crime Team, Mr László Venczl, National Member for Hungary and Eurojust contact point for OHIM, and Mr Alfredo García Miravete, Head of Operational Support.
The aim of the meeting was to exchange views on possible areas of cooperation between OHIM, the European Observatory and Eurojust. After the meeting, the Director continued the discussions with members of the Financial and Economic Crime Team.
One of the actions the parties agreed upon was that Eurojust will co-host the seminar, The internet as a facilitator of IP crime, organised by OHIM and Europol and taking place on 5-7 November 2014 in Alicante.
Following the visit, Mr Maier commented: 'OHIM and the European Observatory on Infringements of Intellectual Property Rights look forward to fully cooperating with Eurojust in the fight against infringements of intellectual property rights. Together we will achieve important objectives. Cooperation between EU agencies is the key to a more efficient Europe’.
