On 22 May 2014, the Dutch Desk hosted the visit of Judge Al Baloushi, Director of the International Cooperation Administration of the Ministry of Justice of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Judge Al Baloushi was in the Netherlands for negotiations on legal cooperation. The Dutch Desk used this opportunity to invite Judge Al Baloushi to Eurojust to exchange views on possible cooperation between Eurojust and the UAE and the appointment of a Eurojust contact point in the UAE. In a pleasant and collegial atmosphere, Judge Al Baloushi explained what legal assistance in the UAE entails. The Acting National Member for the Netherlands, Jolien Kuitert, and the Assistant to the National Member for the Netherlands, Henri Tillart, next gave a general presentation on Eurojust and the EJN. Susana Fonte of the Legal Service and Vaida Linartaitė-Gridziuškienė of the Data Protection Office gave a short presentation on behalf of the External Relations Team on the activities dealt with by their teams and units.
Judge Al Baloushi thanked Eurojust for the invitation and although, as he explained, agreement on appointment of a contact point is still in the future, he showed his willingness to consider organising support for Eurojust regarding legal assistance matters between the Member States and the UAE.
The meeting concluded with a formal welcome by the President, Michèle Coninsx, and Vice-President, Ladislav Hamran, followed by a signing of the guest book and a lunch.
