On 21 May, the President of Eurojust, Ms Michèle Coninsx, and Vice-President Mr Francisco Jiménez-Villarejo, hosted the visit of Mr Fernando Ferraro Castro, Secretary General of IberRed, the Ibero-American Network for International Legal Cooperation.
Mr Ferraro Castro was accompanied by Ms Andrea Murillo Fallas, Project Coordinator for the Permanent Secretariat of the Conference of Ministers of Justice of the Ibero-American countries (COMJIB).
The meeting provided an opportunity to discuss the state of play of cooperation between Eurojust and IberRed as well as the future of Eurojust.
Eurojust signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IberRed that entered into force on 4 May 2009. The aim of the MoU is to facilitate cooperation among the Member States and Latin American and Caribbean countries by improving communication channels.
IberRed is a cooperation tool for both civil and criminal matters. It assists the judicial authorities of 22 Ibero-American countries (including Spain, Portugal and Andorra) and the Supreme Court of Puerto Rico.
