On 17 February, the President of Eurojust, Ms Michèle Coninsx, the National Member for Romania, Ms Daniela Buruianǎ, and Vice-President Ladislav Hamran hosted the visit of the Prosecutor General of Romania, Mr Tiberiu-Mihail Niţu, and a high-level delegation.
A number of topics were discussed, including:
- cooperation between Eurojust and Romania
- the added value of the Romanian representatives at Eurojust in helping to fight organised crime
- recent changes in the code of criminal procedure and penal law in Romania
A topic of special interest for the Romanian delegation was confiscation and extended confiscation in practice and the added value that Eurojust can bring.
Mr Niţu, who has been Prosecutor General since May 2013, was accompanied by the Ambassador of Romania to the Kingdom of the Netherlands, Her Excellency Ireny Comaroschi, Ms Alina Mihaela Bica - Head of the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism, Mr Cristian Mihai Ban – delegated General Prosecutor to the Public Prosecutor’s Office attached to the Court of Appeal Bucharest, and Ms Nadina Spinu – Prosecutor to the Directorate for Investigating Organised Crime and Terrorism, International Cooperation Office.
Following the visit, Ms Coninsx commented: “I always welcome discussions with high-ranking magistrates on Eurojust’s added value and the contribution our organisation can make. Mr Niţu and his delegation engaged in a fruitful exchange of views on future cooperation between Eurojust and Romania. The excellent work carried out by each of the National Desks at Eurojust is continuously reinforced by such visits; these visits also underline Eurojust’s unique position in the fight against organised cross-border crime.”
