On 3 and 4 February, the President of Eurojust, Ms Michèle Coninsx, together with the Bulgarian Desk at Eurojust, received Mr Sotir Tsatsarov, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Bulgaria, Ms Penka Bogdanova and Mr Borislav Sarafov, Deputy Prosecutors General, and H.E. Mr Nikola Ivanov Kolev, Ambassador of the Republic of Bulgaria to the Netherlands.
The delegation attended a meeting with the President and the two Vice-Presidents of Eurojust, Mr Francisco Jiménez-Villarejo and Mr Ladislav Hamran, visited the Bulgarian Desk, and attended a College plenary meeting.
During the plenary meeting of the College of Eurojust, the Prosecutor General announced that, as the second mandate of the Bulgarian National Member at Eurojust expires on 12 February 2014, the Bulgarian Desk will have a new National Member and Deputy National Member from the second half of February. The Prosecutor General, Mr Tsatsarov, expressed his gratitude to Ms Mariana Lilova, the first Bulgarian National Member at Eurojust, who established and developed the Bulgarian Desk, working for seven years at the organisation.
During the meeting with the Presidency Team, topics such as the reform of Eurojust and the establishment of the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO) were discussed.
Bulgaria supports the establishment of a strong EPPO, with explicit competences for indictment and prosecution, to enable the European Union to intervene in cases of fraud against the EU’s financial interests. Bulgaria’s Minister of Justice, Ms Zinaida Zlatanova, calls for a maximum number of Member States to support the setting up of the EPPO.
