On 24 and 25 April 2012, Eurojust will host the 12th meeting of the European Network of Contact Points in respect of persons responsible for genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes (the Genocide Network).
The meeting, convened by the Danish Presidency of the Council of the European Union and supported by the Network’s Secretariat and Eurojust, will focus on the requirements for successful investigation and prosecution of perpetrators of the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes who enter the EU area through national immigration procedures. In this respect, a complex relationship between procedures of national immigration authorities and procedures of law enforcement authorities in identification of alleged perpetrators, victims and witnesses of the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes and consequent actions will be discussed. Exchange of national experiences and best practices in this regard will be part of the meeting. Close cooperation between authorities at national level and cooperation between states are essential in preventing impunity of perpetrators of the crime of genocide, crimes against humanity and war crimes.
